Protecting your family from dengue

Dengue spreads through mosquito bites, especially in and after the monsoon. Most prevention happens at home.

Stop mosquitoes breeding

  • Empty standing water every few days — flower pots, tyres, buckets, AC trays and roof corners.
  • Cover water storage containers tightly.
  • Clear drains and rubbish around the house.

Avoid bites

  • Use a mosquito net, including during daytime naps — the dengue mosquito bites by day.
  • Wear long sleeves and use repellent where advised.

See a doctor if you notice

  • High fever with severe headache, pain behind the eyes, or body aches
  • Vomiting, belly pain, bleeding gums or nose, or unusual tiredness — come immediately
